Good Monday Morning...Flowers are Bloomin'

Wow! It's a beautiful Monday morning here in Dallas, Texas. The sun is shinning bright and the air is slightly cool. Not to worry we should be close to 90 by Wednesday.

I took Chico out for a walk this morning and noticed all the beautiful landscaping our complex did last week. Funny thing is they are starting to remodel the outside of all our buildings today and I wonder what will happen to all the lovely landscaping they just completed??? Not to worry if all the flowers dissapear for a while I have created my own flowers to brighten my apartment.
I'd love to introduce you to Daisy and Marigold. Two of my newest Shweet Potato Dolls and soon to be an e-pattern so you can create your own little flower garden.

New Shweet Potato Dolls are in the House

WOW this has been a wild week. First I fracture my right wrist last Thursday ( week before) then this week I get to drink this wonderful vanilla "shake" and get an IV of idoine while I get my "inards" catscaned. Let's pray that the catscan shows why the pain is still there.

Meanwhile here at the Ramirez place we learned Kassy has to re-take the SAT and get a MUCH better score so she can get into her college of choice. Now I took the ACT MANY, MANY years ago and would just have her take the ACT but the next test is mid June and to late for FALL admissions. So mom heads off to Borders and gets books to study for the SAT. So dyslexic mom with headaches is studing the SAT books with my beautiful but dyslexic 18 year old. It does get the mind moving that is for sure. It also shows me how little I know or retained from WAY back in my high school and UU days.

In between me reading and working with Kassy I have been finishing up a couple new Shweet Potato Dolls ...yes one handed. Got some help stuffing the dolls and just gently used the "right"
hand to sew. I would go nuttz if i could not sew. Wanna see them???

I still need to work up the snowgal but it is so hard to do when it is in the 90s outside.

This has been a strange week here in the Ramirez household. Been "patiently" waiting to hear from Texas Women's University if Kassy got in for Fall 09 and we keep getting letters but they just need more info. Of course it doesn't help that mom filled out all the forms and being dyslexic I messed up my own social in the FSFA form. Got that corrected on Monday so praying she hears something soon.

While I am sitting around recovering I decided to whip up some Easter Egg Soaps. Been a Busy Week

Well it sure has been a busy week at my house. We started the week with Kassy's 18th Birthday, Tuesday was a Historical day in America and I stayed glued to the tv all day watching the events. Of course I was sewing while watching. Friday I spent the afternoon in the hospital having all kinds of "fun" tests run. Got some good news and some not so good news. No signs of cancer but I do have an ulcer. Hope to get more news in 2 weeks when the biposy results come in. This week I get to visit a new Neuro doctor so Think about me on Tuesday.

While I have been sitting here in the apartment I had fun making up some new dolls. One of the dolls is made from a pattern by Patti's Ratties, The little Irish Monkey turned out cute.
Then i decided to make up some of my own so I made a cute little kitty and couple Cupids for Valentine's Day. Last I decided to make a Spring Bunny. You can check them out below...I have not decided where to list them yet...ebay...etsy... Country Fried Primitives...BUT REMEMBER they are for ages 13 and OVER.


I really like Melly and Me patterns so much I ordered 3 more for myself. I made up another of the big 23" monkey. This one is an Irish Monkey but i think he needs a hat... What do you think?


This week I need to work on my FOCD Penny Challenge Doll. This is the first time I have made a doll of this type and I have to do a whole lot of reading before I start on her. MAN she has a whole lot of parts!

Well time for me to go and rest so I better head off to the recliner now. Good thing my wonderful hubby set up my sewing machine close to my recliner. I can relax and sew to my hearts content!

Relaxing and Creating

WOW the whole month of Jan I am offically off. IT is odd to say the least. I am planning to work on changing out my websites and playing around with Just Doodlin Around once Kassy heads back to school on Tuesday and Marty is at work. I need to make a couple doctor appts to find out why I can't seem to eat anymore but other than that I have been playing around with fun patterns and even working on a few of my own.

He is nice size too 23" and just the cutest thing


With Valentine's right around the corner I created this Hearts a Fire Monkey geared to the Man in your life. Not of foo foo so I think it would be perfect for the man caves out there. Add a 6 pack of his favorite beer and the perfect Valentine's Gift. My man gave it the Man Stamp of approval.


These monkey's were created by using a pattern by Melly and Me! You can find their blog on my blog roll to the left.

My neice was over the other day and she wanted to create a doll or two so we made up a bear. When she left I made up a couple of bears. These would be awesome for teenagers or bear collectors. Going to make up scented pillows to go with the bears. Olivia created and designed her very own doll SOOOO Aunt Sandi is going to be making the Olivia baby into a pattern so you can make one with your own little one too.


With the coming of CPSIA as the way it stands now I just have to remember to let everyone know that NONE Of my dolls are made for folks under the age of 13.

I just joined a Doll Group and am looking forward to learning more about doll making and how to create art dolls too.
So off I go to finish my newest ANGEL and I have a trio of dolls in my head for Sisters. It really wants to come out and onto paper soon so I better head off to my table to draw.

Winter Day Special

Don't laugh but here in Dallas, TX we don't get much of the frozen stuff. When we do the city almost stops. We have below freezing temps and a small amount of water in the air so that makes for thin sheets of ice on the roads and walkways. My hubby got into work okay in the old station wagon but i have the new explorer and Kassy and I are staying inside nice and warm. She's suppose to be at school BUT Mommy walked outside and fell so she is not going anywhere. The school will have to just understand or deal as she says.

Good Eats for the Holidays

My baby brother called the other night, he wanted to know how to make some of the Christmas Cookies our mom and grandma puckett used to make. So that got me going through the recipe box. Thought I would share one of my favorites off all times with you. Might even make them for our Evie Party on December 23.

Apricot Balls
1 pound of dried ground apricots
1 lemon
1 orange
(lemon and orange ground peek and all)
2 cups sugar
1 Cup chopped pecans
1 box powered Sugar
(Lemon wedges to garnish the dish once complete)

Cook the ground apricots, lemon and oranges along with 2 cups sugar together for 15 minutes.Stirring all the time. Add one cup chopped pecans, stir and set aside to cool.
When the mixture is cool roll into balls the size of marbles. You will want to dip and cover each "ball" in powdered sugar. Place into tightly covered bowls or dishes.

Vintage wreath

The girls and I love to hit the local antique store and just window shop. Right after grandpa passed Kassy and I hit out local shoppe for some uplifting. Kassy found a wonderful painting that reminded her of her grandpa and I found this awesome vintage swag with all kinds of fruit. It's been staring me in the face every morning. Last night I got to use some of it in this wreath.


It is made out of a gold fabric with tulle and part of the swag is tied on. Vintage it is! Now i just wished I had some of my mom's vintage ornaments from the 30s and a place to put my silver tree! Oh well one can wish!

History in the making

SO happy so many folks decided to vote. Whether you are red or blue THANKS for taking the time to cast your vote!
My sister who is also deaf and I are texting back and forth tonight and are very proud to say we are OBAMA MAMMA's. Yes we Voted for Change and look forward to 4 better years.
This election was the first one my Keelee could vote in and Kassy, my 17 year old said she sure wish she could have.
One thing we are praying for is a safe return of our all our brave men and women and that when they leave Iraq it will be better for us being there. We look upward to a better USA. It will take a while for us to get out of this hole we are in but I truly believe we will as a country be better and stronger.
